Private Medical College Fee Cap Set at Rs2.1 Million

The National Assembly has been informed that private medical colleges cannot charge more than Rs.
2.1 million in annual tuition fees under the current regulatory framework. Officials said colleges are
not free to increase fees independently beyond the approved limit.

The government had initially fixed a lower ceiling, after which a number of institutions sought
review. Following assessment of costs and facilities, some colleges were allowed to charge up to the
Rs. 2.1 million maximum. Authorities have also created a complaint mechanism for students and
parents and issued notices to institutions over fee-related concerns.

Pakistan has roughly 22,000 medical-college seats, with a larger share in private institutions. Because
medical education involves major household expenditure, applicants should verify the approved fee
directly from the institution and PMDC before paying admission or other charges. Any additional
mandatory charges should be documented and questioned where they appear inconsistent with
official rules.
